our journey

Having visited the Adirondacks several times, on one trip we decided that we should consider purchasing a cabin for our family to use, with the idea of also hosting on Airbnb to help cover our expenses. Having not been able to find an existing home that worked for our budget, we began searching for land with the idea of building something ourselves. This also gave us the opportunity to create a unique vision and home for others to enjoy. We had always thought aframe structures looked cool, so we started scouring the internet and Instagram for ideas and companies that might provide an easier way to fulfill our dream. We found AvrameUSA! AvrameUSA provides a variety of home sizes to choose from, as well as the ability to customize the interior to better suit our needs. We also worked with them to create our extended entry dormer that includes our laundry room and lockers, as well as providing a more spacious and welcoming entry into the home (this idea of ours is now an option for other AvrameUSA customers).

Once we had finalized our design, we spent the next 2+ years planning, seeking out sub-contractors, choosing materials, and building ADK Aframe. We acted as General Contractors and completed almost all of the structural and interior finishing ourselves. All of this occurred during the COVID-19 Pandemic, which created a number of obstacles, most notably supply chain issues and the astronomical price of some materials. Building a home during a global pandemic while raising two kids and maintaining full-time jobs is without a doubt an extremely tough proposition, but the sense of accomplishment is second to none and we couldn’t be more happy with the outcome.

Many fine folks helped along the way, and we’ve been delighted to pass along our knowledge, insights, and perspective onto other current and prospective AvrameUSA customers. Our Instagram account documents much of the build, so if you’re interested in seeing and learning more, head on over by clicking on the Instagram logo at the bottom of our webpage.  You can also listen in on my conversation with Janice over at Cozy Rock Cabin and learn more about our experience on our episode of the Cabin Culture Podcast.
